Academic Eligibility Procedures

As presented by the E.I. Athletic Dept during the Spring Coaches Meeting 3/10/25

——-

Coaches will receive a weekly Athlete Update that will have the following information to better help coaches stay informed on their athletes:

Weekly Behavior Log - Any student who receives a referral during the previous week

Weekly Attendance Log - All unexcused absences and tardies for the week

Missing Assignment Report - A list of any missing assignments your athletes may have outstanding

In-Progress Grades - (TBD)

——-

The E.I. Athletic Department’s expectation is that all coaches are reviewing this document weekly and speaking to their athletes. Additionally, we are working on getting a daily attendance report created to let coaches know if students are missing classes during the day.

——-

Eligibility Reports will be generated every five weeks, following the schedule of Progress Reports and Report Cards.

Spring Reporting Dates:

March 7th (Only for identification purposes)

April 11th (End of 3rd Qtr.)

May 16th (Midterm of 4th Qtr.)

How a Student Maintains Academic Eligibility

In grades 7-12, full-time students maintain academic eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities by:

1. Passing all coursework at five-week reporting intervals

OR

2. Not Meeting Standards (grade below a 65 or an Initial Understanding Score below 1.6, BUT is demonstrating ALL six identified College and Career Practices as reported by teachers.

——-

Academic Probation

How a Student Can Get Placed on Academic Probation

In grades 7-12, if a full-time student is not meeting standards (grade below a 65 or an Initial Understanding Score below 1.6) in one or more courses AND is not demonstrating the six identified College and Career Practices, the student will be placed on Academic Probation.

NOTE: Students are still allowed to participate fully in extracurricular activities while on probation.

——-

How a Student Can Get Removed from Academic Probation

In grades 7-12, for a student to be removed from Academic Probation requires the student to complete a Run-Around Sheet in any course(s) for which they are currently on Academic Probation.

Students will have two weeks to demonstrate all six College & Career Practices in the course(s) for which they are on Academic Probation.

The student must present their Run-Around sheet to the teacher(s) by the second Friday of the Academic Probation period.

Students will then be required to return their completed Run-Around Sheet to the staff member overseeing the Extracurricular Activity (e.g. AD, Coach, Club Advisor, School Counselor), and a determination of eligibility will be communicated to all parties.

The completed Run-Around Sheet must show the student is consistently demonstrating the six identified College and Career Practices over a two-week period in the course(s) of concern, as reported by the teacher.

——-

Academic Ineligibility

If, at the end of the two-week Academic Probation period, a full-time student has NOT re-established Eligibility by demonstrating the six identified College and Career Practices in the corresponding course(s), the student will become Academically Ineligible to participate in extracurricular activities. This ineligibility will last until the student returns a completed Run-Around Sheet.

NOTE: While academically ineligible, students will not be allowed to participate in competitions, performances, and other similar activities, but will still be required to attend all events associated with the extracurricular activity.
